Water Safety Tips from Aqua Journeys Swim School

Posted in: The Volusia Mom

Now that summer is full swing, wanted to remind you ways to stay safe when at the pool, beach or any body of water. Here are some water safety tips from our friends at Aqua Journeys Swim School.

1. Install fences around home pools. A pool fence should surround all sides of the pool and be at least four feet tall with self-latching gates.

2. Be aware of streams, creeks, ponds, ditches, and other small bodies of water on or near your property. Standing water left in buckets, wading pools, bathtubs, and toilets can be dangerous to toddlers.

3. Assign a water watcher or hire a “lifeguard” for gatherings at the pool.
Empty all tubs, buckets, containers and kiddie pools immediately after use. Store them upside down so they don’t collect water.

4. Know what to do in an emergency. Learning CPR and basic water rescue skills may help you save a life.

5. Sign up for Aquatic Survival Lessons and Refreshers are a must!
