FAMILIES ASKED TO PRE-REGISTER CHILDREN NOW
Volusia County Schools is actively preparing for the start of school and has created a Reopening Roadmap website as a resource for families, employees, and the greater community. The Reopening Roadmap 2020-2021 is available at www.vcsedu.org.
The Volusia County School Board voted on July 21 to push back the start of the 2020-2021 student school year by two weeks – to Monday, August 31. The School Board also approved an innovative fall reopening plan with safety measures in place and options for families and teachers.
Families should review the three Learning Options available to make the best decision for their children. To help VCS properly plan, parents and guardians are asked to complete a pre-registration form for each child enrolled in VCS no later than 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. The form is available on the Reopening Roadmap 2020-2021 website or by clicking here.
In summary, the three Learning Options are:
Traditional Classroom Setting (as directed by Florida Department of Education) with Health & Safety Guidelines – Students attend school five days a week, as directed by the Florida Department of Education, with health and safety guidelines in place.
Volusia Live (real-time live streaming) with Student’s School of Enrollment (pending approval of FLDOE) – This option is pending approval by the Florida Department of Education. Students will remain at home but follow the same daily class schedule as their classmates who are in traditional school. Students will participate in classroom instruction by logging in on a device, and engaging with their teacher and classmates virtually, by using platforms such as Zoom or Teams (real-time live streaming). These students are expected to log in and out on time for class every day. They are also expected to engage in classroom activities. Attendance will be taken.
Enhanced Volusia Online Learning – This is an at-your-own pace, virtual option that has been available to VCS students for years. Volusia County teachers provide instruction in flexible formats. Parent Information Sessions regarding the fall school reopening plan will be held virtually at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 23 and 24, and 4 p.m. July 27. Parents only need to attend one session per level (elementary, middle, or high school). Details on how to access these virtual meetings are in the process of being added to our reopening website at www.vcsedu.org.
The Reopening Roadmap 2020-2021 website features a video message from VCS Interim Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin. It offers the Volusia County School Board presentations, Frequently Asked Questions, safety, and health procedures and much more. It also allows families and VCS employees to ask questions related to the reopening.

The School Board will meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, and will consider additional reopening decisions, including consideration of a policy related to face coverings.
