The School District of Volusia County will provide a free Voluntary Prekindergarten Program this summer for families of incoming kindergartners who have not taken advantage of the state’s free Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program. This will be an in-person VPK program (with the assumption that we will no longer be social distancing by this summer). However, the virtual registration is open now. The following will provide you with directions to assist you in virtually registering your child for Summer VPK.
STEP 1: Choose one option below to register your child:
a. Call your zoned school and choose the option to speak to the registrar. The registrar’s phone will be forwarded to assist parents.
b. Call Ms. Gierhart at 386-624-4617 and she can direct questions to specific registrars.
STEP 2: The parent will have to have the Certificate of Eligibility which they will need to scan/email/or send a picture to the registrar.
The following sites may be selected during registration: Edgewater Public (Edgewater); Freedom (Deland); Timbercrest (Deltona); and Turie T. Small (Daytona) elementary schools.
The program will operate 4-days per week, generally Monday through Thursday, beginning Monday, June 8 to Thursday, July 30. School hours are scheduled for 7:37 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Although breakfast and lunch are served free to all children, transportation is not provided. To participate, a child must:
-be 5 years-old on or before September 1, 2020;
-be a resident of Volusia County; and
have a current, valid summer 2020 Certificate of Eligibility from the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties – (386) 323-2400, (386) 736-5010 or www.elcfv.org
There is no deadline for registration, however seats are limited. For more information, call (386) 734-7190, extension 33210, or visit the school district’s website at http://vcsedu.org/. Click on the “Parents” icon and then select “Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK).” “Summer VPK” is listed in the menu on the left.
