Fort Lauderdale with Kids: Things to Do

Posted in: The Volusia Mom

Now that Silver Airways has a direct flight from Daytona Beach International Airport to Fort Lauderdale, it is time to explore this beautiful city!

I am looking forward to taking this trip on a regular basis because its obvious affordability and convenience. It had been a while since I have had been down to Fort Lauderdale and I forgot how much I love this area! Bright buildings, gorgeous beaches and fun for any age…this is gonna be a great getaway destination for Volusia County residents! Can not wait to bring my family here!

Additionally, with the endless connections from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport to places like the Bahamas or Key West (you can leave Daytona and be in Key West by NOON!!!!), this is certainly a gift for families who don’t feel like loading the car up and making the haul!

One of the other cool things you may have not have thought about is the short distance from FLL to the Fort Lauderdale cruise port. As much as I love the convenience of Cape Canaveral, cruising out of Port Everglades is a great experience with a few different options. Because Silver Airways has their direct flight, each way every day-you aren’t limited if you want to extend your trip to stay in Lauderdale!

One of my favorite ships, the Carnival Cruise Magic sails from Port Everglades to the Bahamas. Check out all of the sailings out of Fort Lauderdale here. An exciting new ship is coming to Fort Lauderdale beginning October 28th-the Carnival Sunrise. It will feature dozens of updated venues including the cruise line’s newest restaurant and bar concept, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que. Here’s a look at what the reinvented Carnival Sunrise will feature, and heads up: one exciting destination will be Cuba!

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau has a bunch of different options for visiting Fort Lauderdale with your family but here is three quick suggestions from The Volusia Mom:

WATER TAXI FORT LAUDERDALE

This is one way to really embrace the gorgeous town of Fort Lauderdale. My favorite part was the tour of Millionaire’s Row! As one reviewer put it better than I ever could: “This tour which includes the New River is lovely and its always busy with every type of boat you can think off…..the houses and then the high rises are a rich tapestry of this fascinating city…there are ferry stops all over the place and you can easily spot them coming, hop on and off so you can explore along this river….worth spending a day doing.” I would think your older kids would enjoy the tour portion and any age would love this method of transportation around the city.

Thanks to Fancy Nancy, my daughter is obsessed with “fufferflys”-butterflies to me and you. How cool is it to visit an entire world of them? This would definitely be on our list! Check it out here.

AUTONATION IMAX 3D

Pretty sure the boys in your family and maybe some of us girls would be super excited to watch a flick on South Florida’s largest movie screen!
