Sunwing will begin twice weekly seasonal, non-stop flight service
between Toronto and Daytona Beach beginning January 2019.
“Daytona Beach International Airport is thrilled to welcome Sunwing to
our community, offering non-stop flights to and from Toronto,” said Rick
Karl, Daytona Beach International Airport director. “Sunwing will be a
complementary addition alongside our existing major airlines. This new
service will provide improved access to our community’s top
international travel market, and it will be our first scheduled
international service in over twenty years.”
The airline will be the only Canadian carrier to offer non-stop,
international flights to Daytona Beach. The twice-weekly, seasonal
flight service will operate on Mondays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 28,
2019. The benefits of the new air service are two-fold, creating an
opportunity for increased tourism in Volusia County and providing an
additional travel destination for local residents.
“This initiative was realized through team work and collaboration
between multiple entities in the community,” said Jay Cassens, director
of business development at Daytona Beach International Airport. “It
would not have been possible without the Daytona Beach Area Convention &
Visitors Bureau, Volusia County Council, the entire airport team,
Sunwing staff and our local community advocate Alfredo Gonzalez. From
tourism to economic development, it’s a home run for our region and we
look forward to growing our partnership for years to come.”
Sunwing offers flights and vacation packages from 33 Canadian airports
to over 45 of the most popular vacation sunshine destinations. Daytona
Beach will be the airline’s fourth vacation destination in Florida.
Flights and vacation packages are already offered to Orlando, St.
Pete/Clearwater and Fort Lauderdale.
