On Friday, March 15, more than 1,800 Volusia public school students in grades 4-8 will participate in three annual Fitness Festivals, which highlight the fitness abilities students have developed over the course of the school year. Students will compete against similarly-aged students from other schools. The individual events, some of which are part of the Presidential Fitness Challenge include the 50-yard dash, shuttle run, mile relay, standing long jump, pull-ups and sit-and-reach.
Elementary students will compete on the campus of Spruce Creek High School, 801 Taylor Road, Port Orange. Students from Forest Lake, Pride and Spirit elementary schools will compete on the campus of Deltona High School, 100 Wolf Pack Run, Deltona. Middle school students will compete on the campus of Silver Sands Middle School, 1300 Herbert Street, Port Orange. Students compete for placement ribbons. Some schools compete for bragging rights!
The Volusia County Fitness Festivals, which have been taking place for over 30 years, are a district-wide effort to encourage students and their families to be physically active each day.
