WUCF is once again celebrating kindness with its annual Be My Neighbor Day event. Running throughout the month of February, participants can learn what it means to be a caring neighbor with our Kindness Kit activities and virtual events.
Kicking off February 1, fans can download or pick up a Kindness Kit that includes five at-home activities for celebrating kindness and what it means to be a caring neighbor. Activities include a bedtime routine chart, family kindness pledge banner, kindness secret message puzzle, community helpers map and hide-and-seek with nature. Kindness Kits can be printed at home or picked up any Volusia County Library location, while supplies last. Visit wucf.org/bemyneighborday to print the kit or find out a location for pick up.
WUCF will host four live interactive Virtual LIVE PBS KIDS Time events that explore our world with Daniel Tiger- and Meet The Helpers-themed activities. Two sessions will be held in English on Tuesday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 19 at 10 a.m., and two sessions will be held in Spanish on Saturday, February 12 at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. All sessions are the same and include videos and a lot of hands-on fun. A downloadable participant kit is available that includes gather-at-home materials and printables for the event. Registration is required by signing up at wucf.org/events.
“Be My Neighbor Day is one of our favorite events at WUCF, and we are happy to continue sharing Daniel Tiger’s message on how to be a caring neighbor and sharing kindness through our virtual events and activities,” said Jennifer Cook, WUCF’s interim executive director. “We look forward to building on the work of Fred Rogers in our community for many years to come.”
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is one of PBS’ most popular animated programs and airs weekdays at 10 a.m. and on weekends at 7:30 a.m. on WUCF. The program builds on the pioneering PBS series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and is produced by Fred Rogers Productions. The series tells engaging stories about the life of a preschooler using musical strategies grounded in Rogers’ landmark social-emotional curriculum. Through imagination, creativity and music, Daniel and his friends learn the key social skills necessary for school and life.
WUCF could not make Be My Neighbor Day or the virtual events successful without the additional support of PNC Grow Up Great®, Fred Rogers Productions, and The Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation and our county library partners.
