UPDATE APRIL 11 Number of VCS Graduation Tickets Increased

Volusia County Schools’ graduates will now receive up to six tickets each for their graduation ceremonies. This decision was made after careful consideration of health and safety guidelines.

At the request of Volusia County Schools, capacity restrictions at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach will be eased to accommodate higher attendance, with each graduating student provided six guest tickets.

Ceremonies are scheduled to be held June 3-6 at the Ocean Center. Graduates and their guests will be required to wear face-coverings and to socially distance to the greatest extent possible.

High schools will announce details on graduation ticket sales in the coming weeks. With attendance still limited to six tickets for each senior, VCS will professionally live-stream the ceremonies to allow extended family to watch remotely. The ceremonies will also be recorded and posted on the district website.

The graduation schedule is as follows, though dates are subject to change because of the pandemic:

“The Ocean Center recognizes the accomplishments of graduating high school seniors and is committed to providing the honor these events deserve, while also balancing the health and safety of all in attendance” said Ocean Center Director Tim Riddle. “As such, the facility has adjusted seating arrangements to allow for increased attendance, while also maintaining social distancing to the maximum extent possible. To further ensure the safety of all guests, we continue to require face masks be worn inside the facility.”

High schools will announce details on graduation ticket sales in the coming weeks. With attendance still limited to four tickets for each senior, VCS will professionally live-stream the ceremonies to allow extended family to watch remotely. The ceremonies will also be recorded and posted on the district website.

The graduation schedule is available online, though dates are subject to change because of the pandemic.

Volusia County Schools will proceed with socially distanced graduation ceremonies in June. Proms, graduation bashes, and other large-group senior activities where social distancing is not possible will regretfully not be held this year.

High schools will plan alternatives to prom and other traditional activities to make the end of senior year special for graduates, said Dr. Gabriel Berrio, VCS Assistant Superintendent for High Schools.

VCS leaders are working closely with the Volusia County Health Department and are using CDC guidance to make decisions regarding senior activities.

“There is no way to safely social-distance at a dance,” said Volusia County Health Department Administrator Patricia Boswell.

For the Class of 2021 graduation, VCS will follow the same model used successfully last year. Graduates will be socially distanced during the graduation ceremony at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. Attendance will be limited, with up to two tickets for each senior available for purchase through their high schools. Ceremonies will be professionally live-streamed to allow extended family to watch remotely. They will also be recorded and posted on the district website.
