WUCF, Central Florida’s PBS station, has announced a virtual fun run in celebration of PBS’ 50th anniversary. The virtual event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020.
Participants are encouraged to run or walk down memory lane dressed as their favorite PBS character and pay tribute to some PBS icons such as Mister Rogers, Julia Child, Bob Ross, and Daniel Tiger, while celebrating kindness throughout their neighborhoods.
All registered participants will receive a WUCF race T-shirt and finisher medal as well as virtual activities leading up to race day including race playlists, kindness bingo, and a digital toolkit featuring race signage to build excitement for their own race day on the time, day and location of their choosing.
“This milestone offers an opportunity for Central Florida, and the country, to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of PBS and WUCF, including the beloved programs, people and characters that are deeply woven into our culture,” said Dr. Phil Hoffman, WUCF TV & FM executive director. “Community support is essential to our future and events like this help preserve our mission to serve as a beacon of thoughtful media and important storytelling.”
More than 40 percent of WUCF’s annual operating budget comes from the generous support of viewers and listeners. Annual funding for WUCF is made up of a remarkable public-private partnership combining university, state, and federal support with sponsorship from corporations and foundations, and also gifts from individuals. WUCF is grateful for the thousands of individuals and families from Central Florida who support WUCF each year – enabling us to provide Central Florida with quality programming you won’t find anywhere else.
