03.17.2020: A Message from Scott Fritz, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools Regarding COVID 19

Posted in: All Ages, VCS News

Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,

As the COVID 19 situation continues to develop, your School Board members and I understand that you have questions, concerns, and fears about the impact on our school district and you as critical stakeholders in our system. Please rest assured that the Board and I will continue to monitor the situation carefully. We are working collaboratively with both local government officials and school districts around the state.

I just got off the phone with members of the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Health Department and Superintendents across the state. At their advice, and the direction of the Governor, our schools will be closed until April 15th.

State testing has been canceled this spring. All extra-curricular activities are and will be suspended until further notice.

Preparations are in place for digital and remote learning for all schools. This at-home learning is expected to begin on March 30. We will communicate more on this during the next week.

We encourage you to use some of your spare time for writing, research, math games, Khan Academy and of course READING.

We are still awaiting answers for assessments regarding accelerated courses such as advanced placement, IB, AICE, and industry certifications.

We will provide meals for students at the following 27 designated sites starting the week of March 23 between the hours of 10am and 12:30pm. (we will likely be extending this and adding more sites) The link to these sites and more information can be found here: https://www.vcsedu.org/news/coronavirus-information . We will utilize a drive-in procedure through our bus loops at school sites to minimize person-to-person contact.

We are still waiting on guidance regarding special events such as prom and graduations.

We will continue to monitor information that comes in from the state and federal government and notify you of any changes that will impact our district.

Thank you for your patience during this challenging time.

We are all in this together.

Scott Fritz, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
