American Airlines is expanding service at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), with an additional flight, a larger plane for some flights, and the resumption of seasonal, non-stop service to New York.
Beginning in January 2020, American will replace some planes from PSA Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines, to the mainline Airbus a319 for one of its daily flights to and from Daytona Beach to Charlotte, North Carolina. Also starting in January, American will increase the number of daily flights to five.
“With American adding the Airbus a319, it’s a very good indicator for the future here at DAB,” said Airport Director Rick Karl. “This mainline carrier opens up the possibility of more destinations. American has increased its available seats to and from Daytona Beach substantially in the last few years. In 2019 alone, available seats have increased 16%, compared to 2018. Since 2015, the airline has increased capacity 25% and passenger traffic has outpaced capacity growth with a 29% increase.”
Beginning Jan. 11, American Airlines will continue non-stop service between DAB and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York. This comes after the success of the seasonal, summer service that began May 4, 2019.
“We’re thrilled that American will continue to provide service to the New York market and look forward to other possible growth opportunities in the future,” Karl said. “The community can take credit for American’s expansion at our airport because they are the ones filling the seats, which creates the need to add bigger aircraft and shows airlines the demand for increased service.”
