The City of DeLand and the Spring Hill Neighborhood Association, in partnership with Walmart, will give away up to 1,000 backpacks from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Earl Brown Park, 815 S. Alabama Ave. Attendees usually line up early. Prior to the start of the giveaway, each student or guardian will receive one ticket for a backpack. Students must be present to receive a ticket.
Once students have received their backpack, community partners will be located in the park to give out free school supplies. Free drink samples and community health-related information will also be available.
